Gotland 2010 – day 12

We slept through rain and we woke up in rain. Nights like these aren’t why we have chosen to vacation in an RV. When it’s raining so much that we can’t have ANY of the windows open because it’s raining in every direction possible – it quite rapidly becomes a sauna inside the RV and humid as hell.

Wheels up at 9.49 and 21.4 C – and rain, lots of rain. Once we had left our night spot we decided to keep on going north and our first stop was Ekbackens out door dance hall, to pick up a cache. And then we picked up caches Ljugarn beach and Gunnfjauns kapell. We decided against going to Folhammar rauk area because of the rain, and drove towards Ardre Church instead.

Then we proceded to drive north towards Östergarn to pick up a cache there. Then we decided to have lunch at Trädgårdscaféet / The Garden Café.

While our order was being made, Andy climbed the BIG hill by the side of the café and took a few snap shots.

We both took baked potato with a tuna salsa. They also served a pasta sallad with chicken and an asian nudel salad – both looked very yummy.

After lunch we drove further north towards Bara Ödekyrka / Bara Church ruins. Again one of those really serene places, an abandoned church that is almost over grown. It’s a really nice place to visit.

The rain kept pouring down but we took our final cache of the day at Källunge Church.

Then we had so gotten fed up by the rain – that we drove to our night spot, although it was only around 4 p.m. We wanted to stand by Asunden as we had last year, since it was a really nice spot with a beautiful nature preserv and rauk area close by. However when we got there it wasn’t really a place to stand when it was wet and rainy. It needed sun and lots of it…

So instead we drove back inlands and north towards Fårö – where we thought that the weather might be better. We were getting quite tired of the rain, and the fact that we couldn’t really leave the RV.

When we got to Fårösund, the village where from you take the ferry to the island of Fårö, we decided to have a Pizza for dinner. We were mych to tired and cranky to have to make food and such. We drove to Kvänni Pizza & Mat, but unfortunelty they had a power cut. But as we were leaving, the power came back and we ordered our pizzas. Dinner was good…

Across from the Pizza place there is a very beautiful wind mill – called Kvänni, hence the name of the Pizzeria.

After dinner, and we were STUFFED, we proceded on wards to Fårö, via the ferry and drove straight down to one of my favorite night spots, Hammars.

When we got there and had set up the RV for the night. We found a dog running along the shore, without an owner. Wet through and through and really happy to see people. And as soon as we sat down and started petting it, it didn’t leave our side. Andy and I, true animal lovers, we decided to try and find the owner to the dog, hoping that it wasn’t someone who had fallen or something worse. Since the dog had an ear tatoo, we called the police and asked them for help. (Cause that is what one does in Sweden) After about 15 minutes, which seemed like such a short time with the beautiful sheep herding dog, whom was very very lovable, the police called us back and told us that they had gotten hold of the owner, who apparently lived a couple of farms away, and that he was on his way. As soon as the farmer drove up the dog went bananas and recognized her owner. Apperently she had run away earlier in the day, and she was really afraid of lightling and thunder – and it had been storming all day long. Poor baby! So off went our, almost dog =) Ofcourse I had already adopted her in my mind… =)

Then Andy and I, missed her slighly, but we made ready for night, and played some Jeopardy and ate watermelon. And I won both times, haha =) The weather had changed and now it was insanly windy, the RV rocked as if it was on a rocker. It was crazy, both of us got kind of sick to our stomachs…

OUr night spot is on the edge of a cliff about 5 meters above sea level, but the wind had made insane waves that crashed on to the rocks ALL NIGHT…

I love the sound of the ocean, but this was extreme… BUt in no way unpleasant… I would have loved to be able to record the sound and play it at home, but you can imagine the insane wind sounds – that took over =)

And then we watched some TV before we went to sleep in a rainy and extremly windy RV, with all the windows closed, because they just creaked and felt like they were going to break if they were open. The mosquito nets in the windows just blew out of their holders and it was just impossible to have the windows open. Fortunetly the rain stopped and therefore we didn’t have to have the humidity-problem. Kinda cool to almost blow away =)

Cache-count: 6 /476 total.
